Back again in Lowell for the 2026 Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race. I had a great time seeing lots of old friends and meeting new ones as I covered the kick off ceremonies and the start of the race. I like the early morning as they setup and getting some details and portraits while meeting the entrants. As the entrants pledge at the LKSR monument the Fire Eater does his magic and the race begins. Staying long enough for the start of the race I even made it to the mud field to watch all the struggles. These kinetic sculptures are human-powered, all-terrain vehicles made from new and repurposed materials and engineered to race over streets, water, mud, and cobblestones.
