The Grotto in Lowell MA and the Stations of the Cross, both of which feature prominently in the writings of Jack Kerouac in Doctor Sax reside on the grounds of the Ayer Mansion or as I remember it the Franco-American School. Originally built as a replica of the Grotto at Lourdes. The mansion once the home to Fredrick Ayer and later purchased by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate it was run as an orphanage by the Grey Nuns of Quebec. Presently it is now renovated as apartments and called the Residences at the Franco. I did these views back in the fall of 1981 for a project on Jack Kerouac. With the Easter weekend upon us and with the newly renovated Grotto I plan to revisit for some updated views as the weather gets better. Enjoy your Easter weekend.

We went there when they had open doors Lowell. They did a great job inside and outside, the Grotto lokes great. Nice job Kevin, I’m sure Jack K is good with it.
