Appropriate for a Sunday post I collected some of my favorite views of churches I came across in Iceland back in May. My favorite was the red roofed church in Vik. Overlooking the village of Vík, the Víkurkirkja stands as one of Iceland’s most photographed landmarks. I had seen it many times in the promotional materials on Iceland and like the Nubble Lighthouse of Maine everyone sees it and has their own photo of it. It captured my attention right away as we turned the corner into the town of Vik. My favorite angle was down by the black sand beach looking up at the hillside. Everywhere seem to have a church to view and they were predominately Lutheran and lacked a lot of the ornamentation of churches I grew up with. None the less I loved the architecture and it made for a distinctive look in each town I visited.
