This mornings news brought up the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Old Man of the Mountain which happened on May 3rd 2003. I had visited the Old Man many times when I was younger and back in 2000 I did some views with my children looking on. I remember in school reading Hawthorne’s short story The Great Stone Face. I was heading up to Concord NH that morning to photograph the State House for a client when I heard the news of the collapse. They estimated it happened sometime between midnight and 2AM. The thought was to head up there after the shoot and view the site. But I realize that it was too late and I was just happy I previously captured something irreplaceable that will be remembered for many years to come.
