Saturday I enjoyed one of the Lowell Walks about some of Jack Kerouac’s downtown sites featured in his life and books. Lowell Celebrates Kerouac was in full swing all weekend celebrating his 100th birthday. Kurt Phaneuf directed the tour and gave a great presentation with a massive amount of knowledge and information that would put a local to shame. We started the journey at the Kerouac Park on Bridge Street in Lowell and moved through various downtown sites, each key to an event of his life or featured in several of his books. One site in particular caught my interest as it was the location of the old Royal Theater. Now in disrepair and abandoned I also remembered it as the location of Parkway Photo one of the first camera stores I ever visited. This is my 4th time blogging about Kerouac and how appropriate for the 100th birthday this year. I hope everyone enjoyed the weekends celebrations.
